Dryer Comparisons

Most people consider buying a new dryer when they move house and need to install a dryer for the first time. A common question that often gets asked is should I buy a dedicated dryer or a washer dryer combo? There are plenty of things to keep in mind when making your purchase and it is important to do research prior in order to get the best machine that suits you.

Most dryers are larger than their combo counterparts and typically have a drum capacity of around five to seven cubic feet of space unless you decide to opt for a compact model which has about three. Compact models are useful for small spaces or properties such as apartments. Dryers can be powered more commonly by electricity but it is also possible to purchase one powered by gas which can work out to  be more economical in the long run.

When you go to a showroom or department store you will notice the most common makes are Whirlpool, Maytag, Kenmore and GE. As mentioned above there are space saving models but if you have a large family you will need to purchase a full size model which are usually about 28 inches wide. So prior to your visit, measure the space where the dryer is going to fit. If the space is smaller than this then it may be wise to look at a mini washer dryer or mini dryer.

Like combo’s you will need to choose between a vented model or a non vented or condenser model. A vented model pushes the hot, damp air out of a vent to the outside world. Vented models are cheaper than condenser models but they do need to be vented through an open window or dedicated outlet through the wall. If this is not possible then a condensing dryer or ventless washer dryer combo is the alternative. These can be placed anywhere but they turn the steam into water which needs to be manually emptied. A good dryer should not leak steam out into the room.

The question as to whether to by a combo or dedicated dryer basically comes down to the amount of space you have in to which to fit the machine or whether you have a large family or produce a large amount of washing.
